Los Ángeles

Los Ángeles es una instalación que recoge información sobre la relación con la comunidad de la institución en la que expusimos la obra. El estatus de ESMOA (galería por la que fuimos invitados) le permitía no pagar impuestos a cambio de trabajar para la comunidad. Utilizando los correos electrónicos de quienes permanecían en contacto con el museo buscamos el porciento de visitantes habituales del ESMOA que vivían en El Segundo, localidad del museo. Sólo un 8 % de los inscritos en el newsletter del ESMOA vivían El Segundo, una comunidad compuesta en su mayoría por blancos de clase media pero con una alta presencia de mexicanos, afros descendientes y asiáticos que no se integraban al espacio cultural que el ESMOA representaba.

Utilizando las direcciones de correos de los visitantes hicimos una barra gráfica que fue publicada en la fachada de cristal del museo junto con un grupo de angelitos brillantes que servían de pantalla para leer la gráfica.

 

Installation that gathered information about the relationship between the gallery we exhibited in and the community of the area. The legal status of ESMoA allows them to avoid tax payments by working with and for the community. By using the mailing list of the visitors who decided to stay in contact with the organisation, we calculated the percentage of regular visitors to the museum who were from El Segundo, where ESMoA is based. Only 8 % of people on the mailing list of ESMoA lived within the limits of the community of El Segundo.

 Using the email addresses of all the visitors we built a bar graph, placed on one of the glass doors at the entrance of the museum. At the same time, the screen of shining little angels backed onto the mission statement of the organisation, explained in the document released by the IRS regarding to the legal status held by the museum.
