Utilizando la figura del Canut (trabajadores de la seda), establecemos una analogía entre el pasado y el presente de Lyon. Iluminando un cambio de industrias, de una era Industrial a una era Post Industrial de servicios Culturales donde la Bienal de Lyon es un perfecto ejemplo. Esta video instalación muestra la parte de la Bienal que no es expuesta al publico, toda la estructura detrás de las figuras “protagónicas” (artistas) en el evento: curadores, asistentes, técnicos, personal de apoyo, etc.  No de una manera jerárquica pero como una referencia directa al factor humano involucrado en el evento.  Por esta razón utilizamos los nombres de todos los que trabajan para la bienal, eliminando la jerarquía que trae la función que tienen, con el objetivo de difuminar el aura artificial que tienen sus roles. Viéndonos a todos como la fuerza laboral, o Canuts, en una industria sin rostro que visibiliza y modela espacios en nombre del arte y la cultura.

Using the figure of the Canuts (silk workers), we establish an analogy between the past and the present contexts of Lyon. Highlighting a shift of industries, from the Silk Industries to Cultural services, using as an example the Lyon Biennial. The project shows the parts of the Biennial not seen by the regular audience; all the structure behind the figures under the spotlight (i.e. the artists), including: curators, assistants, technicians, support staff, etc. This will not be hierarchical but a reference to the personal-human factor involved in the event. For this reason, we will use all the names of the personnel currently involved in the Biennial, removing the hierarchy indicated by their role. The aim is to blur the artificial aura around the specific function of each person’s role in the event, assuming all of us (the workforce) as labour, or Canuts, in a growing faceless services industry that is shaping places under the spotlight of the arts.
