Site specific intervention, 2014

 

 En la intervención trabajamos con información publicada en la página oficial de estadística y censos de Cuba. Escogimos la tabla de barras que indica el crecimiento de la población cubana según los censos realizados en la isla. Ubicamos la tabla en una de las aulas en ruina de la antigua escuela de ballet del Instituto Superior de Arte, conocidas como las ruinas de circo. En este espacio diseñado para ser habitado por jóvenes estudiantes, hicimos un grafiti, elemento común en esta zona en ruina, de la tabla de crecimiento de la población. La gráfica muestra un decrecimiento de la población cubana en el 2012, año del último censo realizado, sólo comparable con el decrecimiento registrado en Cuba en el 1899, año en que terminó la guerra de independencia.

 

 In this intervention, we work with the information released by the National Office of Statistics in Cuba, specifically with the census. Showing through a bar graph how the Cuban population has growth throughout the last few centuries. This graphic was placed at the old Ballet Faculty from the Higher Institute of Art, known nowadays as the “circus ruins”. In this space designed to be full of young students we made a graffiti, a common element in the surroundings, showing the graph from the population growth. This table shows a decreasing level on that aspect during the last census conducted on 2012, only comparable with the year 1899 when our independence war arrived to its end.
